10 Tips to Increase Self-Care

So many times I have heard “I don’t have the time”, or “I don’t have the money” for self-care. Self-care doesn’t have to be expensive or take a lot of your time, however, it should be done daily and be consistent. If we forget to take care of ourselves it can lead to feelings of exhaustion, feeling overwhelmed, and foggy brained. Most of us would not drive our car on empty, yet we are often running on empty and pushing ourselves to keep going. The longer we neglect ourselves the more exhausted we can become while also weakening our immune system making us more vulnerable to viruses and bacterial pathogens. I created a list of effective and simple ideas to practice. 1. Quiet time: Take an extra few minutes before or after work to relax. A couple of deep breathes just to unwind. 2. Get moving: Add some exercise. Even just 10 minutes  can be good for you. 3. Pleasure: Take 15 minutes to engage in a pleasurable activity. 4. Gratitude: Make a list of 5 things that you are grateful for. 5. Self-Compassion: Be kind to yourself, remind yourself that you are doing your best. Practice being your own best friend. 6. Social: Ask a friend to lunch/dinner. 7. Emotional: Allow yourself to feel and validate your feelings.  8. Self-soothing: Cuddle in a soft blanket, with your pet or try aromatherapy. 9. Auditory: Listen to music. Try a new Genre. 10. Spiritual: Pray or attend a spiritual meeting. And remember it is okay to say “no” to others so that you can say YES to YOU.  For a free consultation call 888-856-9138 or email rbynum@reneebynumlmft.com
